As a responsible parent, you'd think that I would have known better. As a graduate with a science degree, you'd think that I would have known better. As a 35 plus year hockey player, you'd think that I would know better.

Recently my daughter contracted a staph infection from her hockey equipment. We took all of the normal steps to dry and care for her hockey equipment but over a week of hockey school, our daughter got an abrassion from her hockey pants and was infected by this bacterial terror. Fortunately we caught it early and with help of our doctor and antibiotics, she is in perfect health.

I don't think we realize how important it is to clean and disinfect our equipment regularly. After our experience, I know that we will have three sets of clean gear in the rotation for our family's hockey players.
